This tunic was inspired by two recent articles in Interweave Crochet magazine’s summer 2010 issue. The Lodestar Tunic, pg. 78, by Natasha Robarge is the tunic itself, and similar color choice. And one motif in my tunic, the pattern underneath the orange granny squares, is from a chart in this same issue, pg. 86, the Peaseblossom Tunic by Kristin Omdahl. I loved this tunic when I saw it. If you have read this blog before though, you know that I am completely unable to follow patterns, its just me. But I had to make one! What was I to do?
You can see the Lodestar Tunic here: http://www.crochetme.com/media/p/111033.aspx
And here is the link to the summer issue if you’d like to acquire the pattern: http://www.interweavecrochet.com/issue/2010/materials-summer-2010.asp
I chose warmer colors and my orange yarn was variegated. I did not follow the pattern exactly, but imitated the style. Since the pattern is someone else’s creation, I will leave out details of how mine is done, as it only seems right to direct people to the original. This post is just to show that even if you don’t follow a pattern exactly, you can wing it and get something similar that you will like.
This was my first project crocheting with skinny yarn instead of worsted weight. I’m liking the result!
